After 10 long years of playing many different MMOs, I think I'm ready to retire from them. They have been alot of fun over the years. Honestly, none of them have been as fun as EQ1 for me. I think it was just the fact it was all new back then and not many people played them. When you met somebody that did, it was something kind of unique and special. Now everybody plays them it seems. The market of people that play them now are alot different than what I remember form my EQ1 days. This does not reflect any of you, trust me. I have enjoyed my time with you all, even though it has been short.

Being a husband and a father of 3 younger boys (7, 4, and 2), my time is pretty limited as it is. Along with my other hobbies I try to squeeze in, my time is spread too thin. Plus, its rare now that I play any other games that have come out on PC in a long time. I'm sure I have missed loads of other great games that are fun single player experiences or with a friend that don't suck the life out of you. And shooter's got put on the back burner a long time ago. They were my 1st love in PC gaming with Quake back in the day. Sitting down and beating a game in a few days is more fun for me than spending years on a single game with nothing to really show for it.

This is just my view on it right now. It may change in time but I just think I need a change of scenery I guess.

I hope nothing I said has offended anybody, it was not my intention. Different strokes, eh?

I just want to say thanks to Michael, Phil, Anthony, Mitch, DW, and all the others for making my short time with WAR fun. I'll be selling the stuff on my characters and sending the money for it to Michael to do with it as he wishes, along with any items that can be used.

Good luck to you all and I wish you all the best.

Johnny,

just a couple of quick thoughts for you here:

1) Please know, short time with us or not, you have made an impact. You have made friends. You have become a part of something.

2) At varying times in all of our 'MMO Lives', pretty much every single 'long-time' Refugee has 'taken a break' or a 'hiatus' from gaming. Real life always comes first. You've heard me say that a lot since you've been here. And I am not saying this may turn out to just be a much needed 'hiatus' for you - it may well be that you really are done with the MMO environment. I can't answer that long-term, only you can. But, please know, beyond any shadow of a doubt, if/when you *do* decide to pick it up again, Refugees will be here. And you have a home in Refugees.

3) It has been my honor and privilege to get to know you, run with you, adventure alongside of you and enjoy this 'hobby' we have shared togther. Refugees will miss you. I will miss you.

You know where we are. Don't be a stranger. And please, let us know if we can do anything for you!

Sorry to see you go Johnny. I know as well how games can get repetitive. If you feel the yearn, you know you have a home. May you have all the best.

Well, Johnny, it was a blast hanging out with you, and I'm sure glad you found us. I hope that the life of the single player gamer treats you well, and if not, I hope to see you back around again!

At least pop on to TS and say hi occassionally. smile

Aw shucks, sorry to see ya go, but I understand. Everyone goes through it at some point, I know I have. The magic of MMOs for me ended with EQ as well. Having played them fairly consistantly over the last 10 years, they are no longer something new and magical, but rather a fairly consistant part of my routine. They've replaced most of my TV time as my veg time hobby. =D

I play single player games like I watch movies.. they don't last too long, so there's always my current MMO (or two) that I have to go back to when I finish them.

If you like RPGs, I'd suggest grabbing Oblivion.. you can play that forever by itself, and it is a single player game. =P Mass Effect is pretty awesome too, although I hear the PC version conflicts with AVG antivirus software. Its great on the 360 though. =P

FPS, Call of Duty Modern Warfare is awesome, the multiplayer is great too for inane PvP satisfaction. For pure multiplayer fun, try out

Also, buy the Orange Box from Valve..Halflife 2, and its 2 expansions.. Portal, maybe one of the coolest games (but short) of all time, and Team fortress 2, a terrific multiplayer FPS.

Sins of a solar empire is probably one of the best RTS games to come out in a while, and even has a bit of the level up flavour as the capital ships can gain experience and levels/abilities.

Civ 4 for classic turn based.. haven't tried the Colonization expansion yet, but I hear its full of awesomeness.

Going by your WAR character choice, if assassinations and such are fun for ya, you have to try Assassin's Creed. Gets repetative, but for me.. it was awesome..kind of a cross between an action game and the old Thief series (except you hide in plain sight by blending in, instead of skulking in the shadows). I loved the story and climbing around the cities. So much fun (for me at least).

Anyway, it sucks to lose one of our late night players, but I hope you find what you're looking for. If you decide to return, we can bop some destro heads again I'm sure. =D

Good luck to ya Johnny. =D

OH, and if you DO have a 360.. Gears of War.. I can't say it enough.. everyone needs to play that game. That game in my opinion changed FPS for me forever, in how I expect a FPS should play. Ok, so its not really a FPS exactly, and maybe that's why. But its just so awesome with the duck and cover mechanics.. and its always fun to chainsaw aliens.. so many origional DOOM memories there. =D

Whats sad is this is probably my 5th or 6th time to go through this in the last few years, lol.

I have Oblivion downloaded along with COD4. Played them both on 360 and PS3. Now I just have them on my PC because they are free and easy to access when I'm bored.

Looking forward to Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 when they finally come out though.
